Hi, if you are here, I guess you want to know a thing or two about me-and who am I not to serve you, my dear reader?
I'm George. I live in Romania with my lovely girlfriend. Currently, I'm working as a DevOps at Intel.
Among my hobbies are reading1, football2, gaming, and trying out (and occasionally ricing) different pieces of software. I mostly play competitive games, and lately I've only been playing League of Legends-red flag, I know-at which I'm decently good, I'd say3. I also enjoy strategy games like Hearts of Iron IV or Europa Universalis IV. I also do a bunch of activities with my girlfriend, like going on the hunt for new coffee shops in town, playing Minecraft, or just strolling around the city.
I love animals and currently have a cat with my girlfriend and a cat and a dog back in my hometown. We'd like to have at least another cat but are constrained by the landlord to 1 (one).
I'm deeply passionate about science, history, and philosophy, topics on which I enjoy gathering as much (and as broad) of an understanding as I can. I admire the ideals of the Enlightenment and the idea of homo universalis. Politically, I'm left-leaning, but I try to judge both sides as objectively as I can. I dream of living to see a federal Europe.
Over time, I've made many attempts to start and keep a blog, and I hope this time is differentTM4.
Depending on whom I compare myself to, I read both a lot and very little; in the past years, I read 12–15 books (not counting manga).↩
I love to play football, but I kind of dislike watching it unless it's a really high-stakes game.↩
I consistently hit high Emerald and at times dip into Diamond. I like to think I could get even higher if I had the time (and will) to grind out games.↩
The only one I remember and that still exists is ISK for RISK, my old EVE Online-related blog.↩
