It's bleak

I wasn't planning on this being my first post here, but the recent events in Minnesota are depressing. I'm more than 8,000 kilometers away, in an ex-communist country which, since '89, has been a quasi-democracy at best, and watching the most powerful country in the world spiral into terror and fascism is just depressing. Both for the good-will people of the US and for everyone else, this dissolution of the rule of law will encourage this type of behavior from governments more and more. I am pessimistic that the midterms (if they even get to be organized at this pace) will go as the Democrats think they will, and unless they fiercely negotiate the upcoming shutdown, I am willing to bet the situation with ICE acting as a paramilitary organization will just worsen. It's bleak.
